Intervid, Inc., a Maryland-based electronic security systems integrator with an office in Albany, NY, provided and installed the video surveillance system at Albany Medical Center Hospital (AMC) that recorded crucial evidence leading to the conviction of a suspected arsonist.
Michael McAllister, A 54-year-old city man admitted he set a fire last year at AMC. McAllister pleaded guilty to second-degree arson, third-degree burglary, and second-degree criminal mischief during an appearance, Thursday, in Albany County courtroom, the district attorney’s office said.
On Aug. 9, McAllister entered one of the buildings at the hospital and started a fire by igniting paper, a desk and other items. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.
Intervid cameras recorded the entire events as they happened.
“The cameras made a difference; I played all recorded video at Grand Jury proceedings which culminated in the initial indictment”, stated Kenneth Buniak of AMC.
McAllister faces nine years in prison at his sentencing on March 20. He’ll also serve five years of post release supervisions when he is released from prison. McAllister is being held at the Albany County jail.
